Yodelist success story: Todd Kale and the new math

It was June 2020, the reality of Covid-19 had settled in and illustrator Todd Kale knew he needed to generate assignments. He got to work creating the promotion you see here, built a list that included magazine and newspaper art directors and hit send. One of the responses he received was from which led to an ongoing series called “The New Math” about at the effects of Covid-19 on different business sectors. The experience has taught him a lot. Todd says, “While there’s a lot of bad news out there, the adaptability of our country is impressive and encouraging.” And he says, he has used the assignment to hone his 3D skills which are now helping him work more efficiently.

Below we’ve included some of Todd’s recent favorites’s he’s created as part of this ongoing project for ACBJ.

Yodelist success stories:David Danz

David Danz’s success story is proof that consistent promotion pays off and can set you up for a more consistent flow of business. David tells us that although the promotion you see below was mailed in July one of the projects it yielded, a cover for Texas Co-Op Power magazine (included below), did not come about until December. He also told us recently that the art director has recently been in touch about another cover assignment, and he was also contacted by a party interested in purchasing a print of the same image.

Money Talk From The Richard Solomon Group

Feifei Ruan

“Too many people spend money they earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people that they don’t like.”

-Will Rogers

From Plato to Benjamin Franklin to Will Rogers, everyone always had something to say about money.

There are magazines, newspapers, television networks, conferences, publishers, and more devoted to making and investing money. With its latest promotion, The Solomon Group takes a few steps back for a moment to ponder what money means, how it guides our actions, and how it can enhance or sometimes complicate our lives. Viewing these powerful images and accompanying thoughts on the topic from some well-known individuals throughout history… at the very least, let’s just say our relationship with money can be complicated.

Tim Bower

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it it dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

-Thomas Edison

“Money often costs too much.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Kent Barton

“No wealth can ever make a bad man at peace with himself.”

 Maria Corte

“Whoever said money can’t buy happiness simply didn’t know where to go shopping.”

-Gertrude Stein

Jason Seiler

“There is a sufficiency in the world for man’s need but not for man’s greed.”

Mahatma Gandhi

Michal Lisowski

“If you live for having it all, what you have is never enough.”

-Vicky Robin

Paul Cox

“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”

Donyung Lee

“Money is only a tool.  It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.”

-Ayn Rand

Daniel Goldfarb

“If you don’t have integrity, you have nothing.  You can have all the money in the world, but if you are not a moral and ethical person, you really have nothing.”

-Henry Kravitz

Jonathan Chapman Goes On Tour For McDonald’s

Most of Jonathan Chapman’s projects these days require he shoot stills and motion capture side by side, and he and his crew have it down. They’ve made a name for themselves with this approach and the high quality deliverables they produce.
His latest assignment was to create a corporate image library for McDonald’s, which external agency partners have access to for various brand projects. The project took him from Austin to Vegas and up to Portland and Seattle in the Pacific Northwest. In a typical day it is not uncommon to generate between 5,000 and 7,500 captures. An edit of roughly 25 percent are delivered as “JCP selects” and a “JCP alts” just in case. In either case, Jonathan says he is “confident that the client will find what they need.” McDonald’s typically reshoots a library of this size every two years; however, they do produce one-time projects fairly regularly.
The talent are all real people, including the employees. The images have an authentic feel and make the most of subtle regional differences. Small details, like the strong silhouette and the unifying earthy warm palette, help create that signature JCP look, which is so useful for a vast corporate identity like McDonald’s.

Introducing the Creative Playdate Podcast!

Welcome to the brand new Creative Playdate Podcast by Michelle Kondrich, which will also be syndicating on the Workbook blog.

Creative Playdate is a great new interview show that fills some essential voids in the creative podcast community, namely the entry of a really great female host focusing on the challenges of being a creative professional AND a parent, which is a topic that is very much overlooked in the creative industry. However this is NOT a parenting podcast, and Michelle already has some great guests recorded and waiting to release, such as Jessica Hische, Jennifer Daniels, Keith Negley, Daniel Hertzberg, Jaime Zollars and more! Stay tuned and click HERE for the podcasts!

In Michelle’s words:

Creative Playdate is here!

I’ve been sitting on this and hinting about it and talking about it and now it is live in the world. Thank you to everyone who has supported the show so far and thank you for listening. If you enjoy it, please be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss an episode. The show is also being syndicated at

Episode 1 is an interview with the incredibly talented Lucy Knisley. She is a New York Times Bestselling author, not to mention a prolific cartoonist. Her insightful comics can be found on her website. Together we discuss her use of comics as a way to process the world and, now, to process motherhood and about how difficult it can be to work in the same house as a small child.
